The Universal Declaration Of Human Rights Abbreviated
We do this by investigating and exposing human rights abuses wherever they happen. By galvanising our global movement, we shine a light where individuals are at risk and provide information to future generations so that the progressive fulfilment of human rights make it a reality for all. And that idea, in the wake of World War II, resulted finally in the document called the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the thirty rights to which all people are entitled. We have a duty to other people, and we should protect their rights and freedoms. Similarly the ex Soviet bloc countries and Asian countries have tended to give priority to economic, social and cultural rights, but have often failed to provide civil and political rights. Every person and all peoples are entitled to active, free and meaningful participation in, contribution to, and enjoyment of civil, political, economic, social and cultural development, through which human rights and fundamental freedoms can be realized. The truth is that human rights law has failed to accomplish its objectives. There is little evidence that human rights treaties, on the whole, have improved the wellbeing of people. The reason is that human rights were never as universal as people hoped, and the belief that they could be forced upon countries as a matter of international law was shot through with misguided assumptions from the very beginning. The human rights movement shares something in common with the hubris of development economics, which in previous decades tried to alleviate poverty by imposing top-down solutions on developing countries.
All States parties are obliged to submit reports to the committee on how the rights are being implemented. The Committee examines each report and addresses its concerns and recommendations to the State party in the form of "concluding observations". The Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was established in 2008 to monitor the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. It has the power to receive complaints against the countries which have opted into the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
UN member countries believed that the protection of human rights would help ensure freedom, justice and peace for all in the future. Other theories hold that human rights codify moral behavior which is a human social product developed by a process of biological and social evolution . Human rights are also described as a sociological pattern of rule setting . These approaches include the notion that individuals in a society accept rules from legitimate authority in exchange for security and economic advantage – a social contract. Economic sanctions are often levied upon individuals or states who commit human rights violations.
They are applicable everywhere and at every time in the sense of being universal, and they are egalitarian in the sense of being the same for everyone. They are regarded as requiring empathy and the rule of law and imposing an obligation on persons to respect the human rights of others, and it is generally considered that they should not be taken away except as a result of due process based on specific circumstances. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights , adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1948, was the first legal document to set out the fundamental human rights to be universally protected.

Similarly, without livelihoods and a working society, the public cannot assert or make use of civil or political rights . The most common categorization of human rights is to split them into civil and political rights, and economic, social and cultural rights. The risk of human rights violations increases with the increase in financially vulnerable populations.
Giving cash and loans to a government to build projects such as power plants will not help the country if government officials skim off a large share and give contracts to cronies incapable of implementing those projects. Providing experts to improve the legal infrastructure of the country will not help if local judges refuse to enforce the new laws because of corruption or tradition or incompetence. Pressuring governments to combat corruption will not help if payoffs to mob bosses, clan chiefs, or warlords are needed to maintain social order. Demanding that aid recipients use money in ways that they believe unnecessary can encourage governments to evade the conditions of the donations.
Thus, acts of intervention may disrupt interstate order and lead to further conflict. Even greater human suffering might thereby result if states set aside the norm of nonintervention. The rights established by these documents include economic, social, cultural, political and civil rights. The Declaration has also provided the foundation from which a wealth of other legally binding human rights treaties have been developed, and has become a clear benchmark for the universal human rights standards that must be promoted and protected in all countries. The UDHR is, as its title suggests, universal – meaning it applies to all people, in all countries around the world. Although it is not legally binding, the protection of the rights and freedoms set out in the Declaration has been incorporated into many national constitutions and domestic legal frameworks.

The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State. Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family.
What my right to life really means is that no-one ought to take my life away from me; it would be wrong to do so. Human rights simply extend this understanding on an individual level to every human being on the planet. Individuals from some countries may also be able to take a complaint of human rights violations to a United Nations committee of experts, which would then give its opinion. Ideas about justice were prominent in the thinking of philosophers in the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Enlightenment.
China cites “the right to development” to explain why the Chinese government gives priority to economic growth over political liberalisation. Many countries cite the “right to security,” a catch-all idea that protection from crime justifies harsh enforcement methods. Vladimir Putin cited the rights of ethnic minorities in Ukraine in order to justify his military intervention there, just as the United States cited Saddam Hussein’s suppression of human rights in order to build support for the Iraq war.
